The Patterson Park Public Charter School
Patterson Park Public Charter School (PPPCS) is one of the new Baltimore
City charter schools that opened in September 2005. A charter
school is a public school of choice organized by parents and community
members who are free to determine the budget, staff, curriculum
and teaching methods used to meet state and local academic standards.
Charter schools are open to all students and do not charge tuition.
PPPCS operates in partnership with Imagine Schools, a nationally
experienced charter school company.
The school is located at the former St. Elizabeth’s Catholic
School on East Baltimore Street and Lakewood Avenue and is currently undergoing expansion on the Belnord Avenue side. With Patterson
Park as its epicenter, the school will draw students from surrounding
neighborhoods in Southeast Baltimore including Butchers Hill, Canton,
Fells Prospect, Highlandtown, Patterson Park and Patterson Place.
More information can be found at www.pppcs.org.
The New Montessori School
The Patterson Park Community Development Corporation (PPCDC) combines
efforts with Montessori to bring private pre-school and kindergarten
education to Patterson Park. The building is located at 101
N Kenwood Avenue, at the corner of E Fairmount Avenue, just one
block off of the park itself.
Architect Jim Shetler of PPCDC has designed the renovated building
to specifically suit the needs of the school. |
