The Patterson Park community is comprised of several different
organizations and initiatives, encouraging the growth of the neighborhood
as a whole. Here, you can learn about enjoying all that the park
has to offer, enrolling your children in one of our two new schools,

Patterson Park
Located about one mile from the Baltimore’s
Inner Harbor and surrounded by eight solid, traditionally working
class neighborhoods, Patterson Park is not only a gorgeous and historic
green space, it’s the living, beating heart of our entire
area. Rodger’s Bastion on Hampstead Hill, in the western end
of the park, was the lookout point during a decisive moment in the
War of 1812.
About twenty-five years later, the park officially came into being
when William Patterson donated six acres near the top of Hampstead
Hill for a “public walk.” Expanding incrementally, and
not always logically, to its current 150 + acres, this green space
redeems Southeast Baltimore’s monotony like an emerald jewel.
Sadly, the park also suffered during Baltimore’s long decline.
Many of its stately historic structures have been lost (the grand
Music Pavilion to arson in 1972, for example).
Today, the park is once again our oasis. Historic structures like
the Boat Lake, Pagoda and Marble Fountain have been restored, thanks
to the partnership between The
Friends of Patterson Park, Baltimore City’s Department
of Recreation & Parks, many other organizations and countless
volunteers. The park’s role as a recreational center goes
back to the early 20th century, and its playing fields and ice rink
are still well used and well loved.
New structures, such as a Children’s Playground, exercise
trail and renovated swimming area are in the works. Patterson Park
is the site of numerous festivals, concerts, sports activities and
other events. Check out the Friends
of Patterson Park website and other links

Library Square
This intimate green space is home to the Patterson Park Branch of
the Enoch Pratt Library, bordered by Fayette Street, Linwood Avenue
and Pulaski Road. Today, a coalition of dedicated residents from
Patterson Park Neighborhood and McElderry Park have launched an
initiative to improve this green space, and to promote its potential
as a cultural and commercial center for our area. This group, called
The Neighbors of Library Square, meet regularly on the second Tuesday
of the month in the basement of the library. If you’re interested
in becoming part of an exciting revitalization effort, please contact
Matt Clark.
